(WEEK 3) Arcs, Slow in/Slow Out, and Secondary Movement September 30th, 2015

Week 3: Arcs, Slow in/Slow Out, and Secondary Movement

What we have learned Last Week:

Exaggerate:
Making something wilder and crazier than normal while at the same time staying true to reality.

Pose to Pose vs. Straight Ahead:
Straight ahead animation is when you start from one animation drawing to the next without any planning.

Pose to Pose is when you set key frames for the movement and then animate accordingly.

Spacing and Timing:
More frames = Slower Animation
Less frames = Faster animation

What we have learned this week:

Arcs:

Keep in mind that a lot of things move in half or full circles. Things like:

Your limbs
Doors
Clocks
Fingers
Wheels
A ball on a string
Just about anything you can think of!

Slow In Slow Out:
Remember that talk we had about Timing and Spacing? How more frames meant slower animation and fewer frames meant faster animation? Well, the same thing applies here! When you start to move an object, or a person, what you want to do is 'slow out' the movement by adding more frame in the beginning, less frames in the middle to make it go faster, then 'slow in' the movement to a complete stop by adding more frames in the end.

Secondary Movement
Secondary movement is when extra movement is added to enhance the main animation making it look more natural.

Take a look at Stimpy here. What is his main movement? His skipping.
And what is the secondary movement? His hooded cape and his basket.

Let's Take a Walk!
